Samsung SSD

The arrival of Samsung’s SSD 840 drive series inspired OnQue to develop consumer awareness and education about the product through the creation of ‘Space Grandma’ an online game with a competition mechanic.

Samsung SSD’s make PC’s go faster, so the premise of the game was that a Space Grandma riding a buggy could eventually move at the speed of light by collecting SSD icons in the game.

OnQue wanted communication to be pushed to tech enthusiast publications via the active involvement of the campaign, creating a memorable engagement across digital display, social and micro-site that was optimal for both desktop and mobile devices.

We wanted to appeal to the modern consumer, a performance driven student, gamer or professional, 20’s to late 30’s who is technologically on the pulse and keen to socialize.

Inspired by the visual aesthetic of 60’s Retro Arcade Games we wanted to bring a vintage feel to a New Wave concept so we designed the game with an 8 bit graphics theme but delivered it on a modern html5 browser.

The response was pretty overwhelming.

‘Space Grandma’ was started and restarted without spam 35,183 with 5,492 total scores submitted. One user in particular started the game 979 times, playing for nearly 13 hours straight!
