It appears that many ‘creative’ professionals are lacking inspiration when comes to describing themselves on social networks. The team at LinkedIn has recently released their 2012 findings of the most overused professional buzzwords in LinkedIn Profiles. Last year’s popular analysis found the some of the most overused words to be “creative”, “effective” and “extensive experience”. Over the last 12 months the social network has experienced membership growth from 135 million to over 187 million worldwide.
So has this increase in subscription had any impact on these buzzwords? Not overly. For the second year in a row the word “creative” took out the trophy for most overworked buzzword in LinkedIn profiles, and Australia is listed among the guilty of overusing this cliché. To identify these buzzwords LinkedIn’s analytics team takes in the adjectives used in the summary section of a users’ public profile, removes overused nouns and certain irrelevant words and sorts them by frequency and country. This also includes non-English profiles after they are translated.
