Shutterstock: Annual Design Trends 2013 Edition

Innovative digital imagery library Shutterstock has recently published their 2013 annual global design trends infographic. This infographic identifies emerging visual trends across the globe, and was created using data collected from both searches and downloads on the site throughout 2012. Shutterstock is the leading global provider of stock imagery, having sold over 250 million images since 2004.  Throughout 2012 Shutterstock licensed over 70 million photos, vectors and illustrations, and currently has more than 750,00 active clients across 150 countries. The graphic takes a look into new trends, popular keyword searches and colour themes, as well as video trends. Interestingly infographic downloads from Shutterstock are up a huge 525% from 2011. Here are a couple of the key insights as identified by Shutterstock, and check out the full infographic below.

Textures, patterns, and prints, oh my!

Textures, patterns, and prints appeared in virtually every market this year, but were especially prominent in Australia, with retro vintage designs and abstract bokeh among the top downloads.

The grass is always greener.

“Green” may not be a new trend, but now instead of simply being green, we have more refined terms, from “sustainable” to “eco-friendly.” Green imagery accounted for close to 14 million downloads in 2012.

Brazil could be the next design giant.

With several abstract and cubic images, Brazil is on the cutting edge of design this year.
