When you're using social media do you like to strut your stuff like a Peacock, or just Lurk from a distance? Perhaps you're a Dipper, using social media only every now and then. Or maybe you're a Ranter, using social media as your soapbox to vent about modern day annoyances? And if you think you don't fall into any of these categories you could well be a Denier. These are just a few of the new breed Internet personalities revealed by a research project looking into the rising influence of social media in people's lives. This survey by online bank First Direct has identified 12 distinct personality types of users across social media, from the obsessive ‘Ultras' to the anonymous ‘Ghosts' as displayed in the infographic below. These findings explore the thinking that the personality traits we are exhibiting on social networks may be quite different to those we display in the real world, and that this is a result of more and more time spent building relationships and having conversations online as apposed to over the phone or face-to-face. With more customers preferring to reach out to businesses through social media channels it's becoming increasingly important for businesses to gain as much insight as possible into the types of people you could be dealing with. The research was conducted by First Direct to gain an increased understanding into how people use their social media accounts and to use these findings to develop and refine new customer services initiatives. Check out the infographic below for the full 12 social media personalities types and let us know what you think in the comments.
